Making Bus Signs / Using Composer
For making of Bus Stop, Office Door and Desk Signs
Most of this document is tailored to creating bus stop signs.
Using the computer in the Laminating Room
- Create the sign(s) in Composer.
- File locations
- Bus Stop Signs: S:\maintenance\composer\bus stop signs
- Office Door signs: S:\Maintenance\Composer\Name and Door Plates
- Desk signs: S:\Maintenance\Composer\Name and Door Plates
- Retirees: S:\maintenance\composer\bus stop signs\retirees
- Bus Sign data comes from MTG.ORG
- Create a new file in Composer of all the bus signs to be made
- Proof all signs by the requester and fix before printing.
- Load appropriate vinyl in the Gerber Edge.
- The machine will tell you what to load based on the template used.
- Press HOME and then load Vinyl with the three pins at the top of the roller.
- Send file to Gerber Edge
- File, Output ALL or Selected
- Remove the weeding border or cutting edge, "E" with outline in the icons.
- For long prints, lay the image down, icon on the left side.
- Select Print to Device
- At Gerber Edge
- Press Online
- Color of vinyl shows, verify.
- Press Online
- Color of the film shows,
- load the color
- Tighten the film
- Press Online
- Repeat until the job is done.
- Press RESET to get it offline.
- Back the vinyl out.
- Setup for Cutting
- Load vinyl in the Gerber S15
- If it is a long job, run the vinyl all the way through the machine and back. Otherwise make sure the vinyl will not hang or drag.
- Align the bomb sight.
- Install the knife, larger knife for mostly straight cuts like Bus Stop signs, smaller for office name plates and door signs.
- Set the pressure
- Bus Stop = 4 (reflective vinyl)
- Name plates and door sign = 3 (non-reflective vinyl)
- Magnetic vinyl = 4.5-5
- Send the job, click icon for Cut/Pounce
- @ Gerber S15 press Run Cont
- At the successful conclusion of sign making, save or update each individual sign for future reprint.
